Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Thrown By Lions

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Women's Lacrosse fell 15-7 at home on Wednesday afternoon to the Albright College Lions.

Wednesday's game was originally scheduled to be played at Albright, but problems with the turf there gave Eastern a free home game. However, the Eagles' new home field advantage couldn't make up for a low-scoring first half.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, attacking the cage less than 90 seconds in. Anna Charlebois earned a free-position shot and nailed it for her fifth goal of the season. Charlebois scored two goals as did Julie Haggan and Jenn McKelvie. Jacquelyn Janda also scored.

Eagles' goalie Cortney Andes tied her career-high in saves with 18, but the Eagles allowed too many extra Albright possessions. As a result, Albright's attack peppered the cage with 38 shots compared to Eastern's 17 attempts.

The Eagles scored on 7-of-17 attempts (41 percent), but weren't able to wear down the Albright goalies the way they wanted to. Only two of those 10 misses were on goal. Albright converted a lower percentage of their shots, 15-of-38 (39.5 percent) but had a much higher percentage of shots on goal, 33-of-38 (86.8 percent) were on goal.

After Charlebois scored the game-opening goal, Albright rattled off five straight goals. Eastern put an end to the drought with a crafty goal by sophomore Jacquelyn Janda to start the second half. Janda cut across the goalmouth around three defenders and dumped the ball over her shoulder, pulling Eastern within three, 5-2. Albright then scored twice before Eagles' freshman Julie Haggan scored on a free-position shot. Eastern went 4-for-7 on free-position attempts.

Albright responded with three straight goals to which Eastern followed with three consecutive goals of its own to make it a 10-6 game. Albright, however, put the game away with four consecutive goals.

Eastern travels to Hilton Head, S.C. for its next two games. They will play against Walsh University and SUNY Potsdam.
