Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Slow Start Costs Women's Soccer

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—The first seven minutes of Saturday afternoon's game against Lebanon Valley College were ones that Eastern Women's Soccer would like to forget. However, the Eagles showed some resiliency by forgetting about the rough start and moving on to play some of their better soccer in recent games.

The Eagles fell 5-1 to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen after allowing four goals in the opening seven minutes but made it a game from that point on. Eagles' head coach Dan Mouw commented that while early mistakes really hurt them, he liked the way his young team played in the final 80 minutes of the game, especially when it came to generating scoring opportunities. The Eagles took 10 shots in the game and put seven on goal, their third highest totals this season.

Emily Roquemore, senior forward, scored the Eagles' goal, her first this season.

Lebanon Valley started the game by scoring one of the top-20 fastest goals in NCAA Division III record. The Dutchmen stole the ball after the opening kick, and a through-ball from LVC's Meghan Ross found the feet of Amanda Douglas who floated a shot in from the wing above Eastern keeper Jules Leco's reach just inside the right post.

Lebanon Valley added another goal in the fourth, fifth and seventh minutes.

The Eagles battled despite the large deficit and finally in the 53rd minute, Roquemore found the back of the net. Eastern's Stephanie Le won a 50/50 ball at midfield and headed it forward into Eastern's attacking area finding Emily Cole. Cole kicked it out to Lydia Peachey on the wing who worked a quick give-and-go with Alondra Cervantes. Once Peachey got the ball back she drove a shot that was too hot for Dutchmen keeper Taylor Reinhold to handle. Roquemore chased down the loose ball and buried it past the goal line.

Eastern travels to Farmingdale St. on Wednesday for what is now a 4 p.m. start.
