Megan Bolton Scores Twice In Eastern University Field Hockey Loss To DeSales from Eastern University Athletics on Vimeo.
ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—Eastern University Field Hockey earned an overwhelming majority of corners in Saturday's Freedom Conference game against DeSales University, out-cornering the Bulldogs 19-7.
The Eagles scored on their first corner play of the game, less than four minutes into the contest, but were unable to capitalize on their remaining 18 corner opportunities and fell 3-2 to the DeSales Bulldogs.
Megan Bolton scored both of the Eagles' goals, ripping a shot on a corner and also finishing a penalty stroke. She also had two defensive saves. Fellow defender Alyssa Rowe added another defensive save and Eagles' goalie Jennifer O'Neill recorded seven saves.
The Eagles took the 1-0 lead 3:40 into the game on Bolton's blast, but DeSales knotted the game in the 16th minute, moving the ball well in transition and setting up a fast-break attack. DeSales' Alision Maletesta got a shot off and was denied by Eagles' keeper O'Neill, but the rebound bounced to one of two DeSales' forwards on the opposite post and Alexa Beaumont finished the play with her seventh goal of the year.
The Bulldogs pulled into the lead in the 31st minute on a nifty give-and-go off a corner and then stretched their lead to 3-1 with a rebounded shot on a corner play with just two-and-a-half minutes to play before halftime.
Shortly after returning to the field for the second half, the Eagles cut into the Bulldogs' lead. The Eagles earned a penalty stroke in the 38th minute. Bolton took the stroke and converted it, pushing it inside the left post. Bolton is 7-for-7 in her career on stroke opportunities.
Bolton sunk another shot late in the second half that would have tied the game, but she was just outside of the circle and the shot was waved off.
The Eagles (5-6, 1-1 Freedom) take on the No. 3 team in the country, TCNJ, on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
