ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—Eastern University Field Hockey collided with the No. 4 TCNJ Lions on Tuesday afternoon, falling 7-1.
The Lions pounced to a quick 2-0 lead in the first six minutes and then soon tacked on three more goals in a four minute span to stretch their lead to 5-0 by the 17th minute. TCNJ scored once more before halftime and added a final goal in the 66th minute.
Gina Miller scored the Eagles' goal early in the second half, setting up on the left post after inserting a corner pass to Megan Bolton and then redirecting Bolton's subsequent blast around Lions' keeper Amanda Krause. Miller's goal was her fourth this season.
The Lions' onslaught slowed in the second half and the Eagles matched them shot for shot with both teams taking eight second-half shots each. The Eagles also earned four penalty corners after taking none in the first half.
For the Lions, Lindsey Hatch, a former Division I player, netted a hat trick and reached her 21st goal of the season. Hatch entered Tuesday's game fourth in the nation in goals per game.
Eagles goalie Jennifer O'Neill recorded eight saves and midfielder Ashley Badders helped her out with back-to-back defensive saves.
The Eagles (5-7) play their homecoming game on Saturday, hosting Misericordia at 11 a.m.
