Field Hockey Holds Off Cougars

ST. DAVIDS, PA.—Eastern University Field Hockey started off Homecoming 2014 with a 1-0 win, a score that proved be a trend the rest of Saturday. Danielle Frasca tipped in the Eagles' lone goal to lift them over the Misericordia University Cougars, evening the teams at 2-1 in Freedom Conference play this year.

The Eagles scored the game's only goal in the 24th minute on their seventh of nine first-half penalty corners. The Eagles worked the ball around the circle with Megan Bolton receiving the ball at the top and then finding Hannah Bartholomew to her right. Bartholomew dribbled in and slapped a bouncing shot. Misericordia goalie Angela Pasquini went down into a split to block the shot, but Eastern's Danielle Frasca was near the post and tipped the shot over her foot, past the back defender and into the cage. Frasca's goal was her fourth this season. Pasquini tallied 14 saves in the loss.

After earning nine corners in the first half, the Eagles took four corners in the second half, trading places with the Cougars. The Cougars took four first-half corners followed by nine second-half corners.

Misericordia earned six corners in the game's final minutes, but the Eagles' defense locked down and kept the Cougars at bay. Eagles defenders Megan Bolton and Hannah Bartholomew came up big with defensive saves down the stretch. Jennifer O'Neill tallied three saves in the win.

The Eagles (6-7, 2-1 Freedom) take a quick hiatus from conference play on Wednesday when they play at Swarthmore College. The Eagles return to conference play on Saturday at Wilkes University.
