Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early Goals Not Enough for Women at Dickinson

Carlisle, Pa.- Eastern University Women's Soccer (0-2-1) held two leads in the contest, but the host Dickinson College Red Devils (3-1)  scored four times in the final 46 minutes of the match to pull away to a 6-2 win.

Victoria Graham opened the scoring in the third minute off a perfectly weighted through ball from Emily Cole. Graham raced behind the Red Devil back line and slotted home her second of the year.

The 1-0 lead held until the 23rd minute of the match. Dickinson senior Rosalin Savoie finished a ball from Jenna Lamb. The game did not stay tied for long.  Only seconds after the goal, Cole collected ball at the top of the box. After beating a pair of defenders, she laced a perfect strike into the upper right corner of the goal for her first career goal.

Moments later Cole had another chance on a ball from Graham, but Red Devil goalkeeper Charlotte Armour beat her to the ball at the top of the box. Armour' s punt bounced past midfield and Lamb pushed the ball into space for a strong right-footed shot of her own. Lamb would prove to be a thorn in the side of the Eastern back row throughout the day as she scored twice in the second half to record her second hat trick of the young season.

The crushing blow came at the end of the half, as Dickinson went the length of the field and scored with 39 seconds to play to grab their first lead of the game.

"They took advantage of our mistakes," Head Coach Dan Mouw stated, "There have not been too many games where we have scored twice and lost, but we made far too many mistakes in the back half of the field to beat a good team. They are a good team on their home field, and we have to do better to hold leads."

After a relatively quiet first five minutes of the second half, Dickinson rattled off three straight goals in a ten minute stretch to put the game away. The Eagles' best chance of the second half came on a Cole free kick off the crossbar.

Elayna Simpson made 15 saves in goal for the Eagles.

"It is a tough scoreline for a goalkeeper," Mouw continued, "but Elayna made some tremendous saves. We will make some adjustments and be ready for what lies ahead."

The Eagles play on Olson Field for the first time this fall on Tuesday when they host Cabrini College in a game for Eagle Road bragging rights.
