Men's Basketball Burned By FDU-Florham

Box Score

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--The hunt for the Freedom Conference's final playoff spot came to an end on Tuesday evening for Eastern Men's Basketball with a 59-49 loss to the FDU-Florham Devils.

Entering the game in a four-way tie for fifth place, the Eagles needed a win against the fourth-place Devils to potentially earn a playoff spot. Up until 13 minutes to go in the second half, the Eagles seemed poised to continue the run towards the playoffs.

Trailing by three with 13 minutes to go, the Eagles were outscored 11-2 over the next three minutes. While the Eagles were able to neutralize an eight-point deficit in the first half, the double-digit hole in the second half proved too deep for the Eagles to climb out of for the remaining 10 minutes of the action.

Eastern freshman Malcolm Garrison scored 13 points to lead the Eagles. Senior Kyle Malloy, in his final home game at St. Davids, scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds.

The Devils had three players in double-figures: Mike Williamson (14), Derek Hall (13) and Kevin Furlong (11). While the Eagles and Devils had similar shooting percentages, the Devils hit seven 3-pointers to Eastern's three.

Eastern, 4-9 in Freedom Conference play this season, finishes the year on Saturday against DeSales University, the No. 1 seed in the conference.
