EWING, N.J.--Eastern Field Hockey battled through a scoreless first half against the No. 8 TCNJ Lions on the road on Tuesday night, but ended up falling 3-1.
Eastern Field Hockey challenged its fifth top-20 opponent this season, but the Eagles ran into a TCNJ squad that was riding the momentum of a nine-game win streak.
Eastern scored first as Megan Bolton (Souderton, Pa./ Christopher Dock) completed a penalty stroke four minutes into the second half.
Bolton, a sophomore defender, leads the Eagles with 11 goals this year, surpassing her rookie total of 10 goals. Bolton is 3-for-3 this season on penalty strokes.
Eastern escaped the first half unscathed even as TCNJ earned seven penalty corners and 16 shots. The Eagles made seven first-half saves: three from keeper Jennifer O'Neill and four defensive saves. Defenders Hannah Bartholomew and Kalyn Detweiler each stopped a ball at the goal line. Alyssa Baughman recorded two defensive saves.
O'Neill recorded two more saves in the second half, but the No. 8 Lions got three unanswered goals past her. TCNJ's Lindsey Hatch recorded the first two goals, scoring in the 42nd minute and the 49th. Erin Healy scored in the 59th minute. Both Healy and Hatch have 12 goals this season.
