Women's Soccer In Playoff Hunt With Win

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.--Eastern Women's Soccer moved into fourth place in the conference with a win on Wednesday, meaning that if the season ended tonight, the Eagles would be in the conference playoffs.

The Eagles topped the Delaware Valley College Aggies 1-0 on the road Wednesday afternoon, improving to an even 2-2-1 in the conference.

Eastern senior forward Michelle Brown netted the game's lone goal in the 28th minute.

Eastern head coach Dan Mouw commented that Brown and freshman Lydia Peachey were able to carry out something they had been working on in practice the day before. "I was really pleased to see the way Michelle and Lydia were able to combine in the attacking part of the midfield," he said.

Peachey came in from the left wing, created space in the middle of the field, and lofted a pass ahead to Brown in the box. The pass caromed slightly off an Aggies' defender and Brown finished it in the air with a one-touch volley.

Freshman forward Emily Cole returned to the lineup after missing the past few games with an injury. Coach Mouw said he thinks that Brown and Cole's resurgence will spark the Eagles' offense going forward.

The Eagles took 18 shots to the Aggies' six and out-cornered the Aggies 6-1.

Eastern sophomore keeper Elayna Simpson recorded four saves. "We needed Elayna to make one huge save in the first half, and she did," Coach Mouw said. "She dove and pushed a shot around the pipe."

The Eagles next game is against conference foe King's College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
