MADISON, N.J.- Eastern University Men's Basketball dropped a
70-56 decision in a very physical game at FDU-Florham. The host Devils
shot 60 percent from the field in the second half to stifle any Eastern comeback effort..
The Eagles fell behind early and shot a woeful 25.9 percent from the
floor in the first half. Kyle Malloy made five free throws and had nine of his team-high 11 in the first half.
Despite the tough shooting effort from the field, the Eagles only
trailed 22-21 with two minutes to play in the period. Eastern could not connect on a field goal the rest of the half and trailed 29-22 at the break.
The Devils scored the first six points of the second half, and the
Eagles were unable to cut the deficit to single-digits until Tyler
Stowers connected on a jumper in the lane with less than two minutes to
play.
In the second half, the Eastern shooting improved only slightly, but the Eagles did a better job turning the misses into points as they scored
16 points on 14 offensive rebounds. The cold shooting was fairly universal as Eastern went 1-for-10 from behind
the arc and only made 5-of-11 free throws.
The Devils reached the bonus early and shot 22 free throws. FDU (7-8, 3-2 Freedom) also struggled from distance
(2-for-16), but they scored 40 points in paint for the game.
Stowers scored seven points and Keith Crowell scored eight as Eastern's
bench scored 30 points. Will Green led four FDU players in
double-figures with 17.
The Eagles (3-13, 1-4 Freedom) host DeSales this Saturday.
