ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Volleyball defended its home court in Saturday's tri-match, defeating both Richard Stockton College and Moravian College in three sets.
Eastern topped Stockton 25-18, 25-23, 25-18, and Moravian 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.
Eagles' junior Kearby Benak led Eastern in kills in both matches, recording 12 against Stockton and 15 against Moravian. Sophomore Katrina Pisch also recorded 12 kills against Stockton and added six more against Moravian. Sophomore Lauren Sproles added 19 kills over the two matches.
After taking care of business against Stockton in the first set, 25-18, Eastern fell behind 5-0 in the second set, and soon trailed 9-2. However, with freshman Erin Hillman serving, the Eagles rallied for seven straight points to tie the score. Eastern and Stockton continued to trade points the rest of the set and the Eagles held off the Ospreys 25-23.
The back and forth battle continued though the majority of the third set. With the score tied at 17, the Eagles went on an 8-1 scoring run to put the Ospreys away for the second time this season.
After the Moravian Greyhounds defeated Stockton in the noon game, the Eagles returned to the court at 2 p.m. to face the Greyhounds. Eastern's 2011 Final Four Volleyball team, honored before the game, cheered on as the 2012 Eagles trounced the Greyhounds 25-12, 25-14, 25-15. The Eagles hit .359 and held Moravian to a -0.010 hitting percentage for the entire match.
The Eagles' next game is a conference match at FDU-Florham at 7 p.m.
