Field Hockey Tops Pride with Second-Half Flurry

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.-- After surrendering two goals late in the first half, Eastern University Field Hockey stormed back with four unanswered goals in the second half against Widener University.

The Eagles improved to an even 2-2 record this season with the 6-2 victory over the Widener Pride on Tuesday afternoon.

Eastern sisters Kelby and Megan Bolton combined for three goals in the win. Brittany Moyer, Jess Jaindl and Kaycie Andrew also scored in the win. Andrew, the only Eagle to score Tuesday not from Christopher Dock High School, netted her first collegiate career goal.

The Eagles struck early, scoring first in the third minute. Kelby Bolton received the ball from Alexa Borrelli off a penalty corner and slipped a shot from near the top of the circle to the back right corner of the goal. Bolton scored again 13 minutes when the Eagles earned a penalty stroke after a Widener defender was called for touching the ball with her body while attempting a defensive save. Bolton then calmly whipped the ball into the upper left corner of the goal for the 2-0 lead.

The Pride responded by tying the game with two goals by Meghan Garvey in the 30th and 33rd minute.

With the score even at the half, Eagles' coach Camrin Azzarano encouraged her players to take the ball hard to the cage and take personal responsibility in trying to regain the lead. After the Eagles scored four second half goals, Coach Azzarano commented, "I am really proud of the the way this team is listening and being coachable."

Eastern freshman Kaycie Andrew scored six minutes into the half, poking a shot in-between a lunging Widener defender and goalie. Moyer added her goal in the 55th minute, with a reverse stick shot. Jess Jaindl scored in the 59th minute, redirecting a shot by Kelby Bolton into the left corner of the goal. Megan Bolton scored the Eagles' final goal with a blast from just inside the circle after a penalty corner in the 63rd minute.

The Eagles take on Richard Stockton College at home at noon on Saturday.
