MONTCLAIR, N.J.-- Eastern Field Hockey started off its tough 2012 schedule with a 4-0 loss against Montclair St. University.
The No. 9 Red Hawks are the first of six Top 20 teams the Eagles must face in 2012.
Despite the loss, Eagles' head coach
Camrin Azzarano said the team is
keeping a positive outlook. She said the team began to make necessary
adjustments to generate scoring opportunities, but those adjustments
came a little too late in the game.
The Eagles recorded eight shots on goal, but were unable to get past Montclair's senior goalie Megan Bosland.
Eastern started three freshmen, including goalie
Veronica Rayer, who recorded five saves in nearly 58 minutes of play.
The Red Hawks scored first, 20 minutes into the game, with a one-on-one
shot by Michelle Hagel. Hagel finished with three of the Red Hawk's four
goals.
Eastern did earn four penalty corners compared to Montclair's two.
The Eagles play their home opener on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against No. 10 Franklin & Marshall College.
