ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Field Hockey dropped its home-opener Tuesday against No. 10 Franklin & Marshall College 3-1 on a rainy afternoon.
The Eagles placed three shots on goal in the loss, as they fell to 0-2 this year.
F&M's Kristen Zublin put the Diplomats on the board 2:51 seconds into the game and teammate Dana Venditti added another goal six minutes later.
Eastern successfully converted a penalty corner opportunity 21 minutes into the game, when Danielle Frasca inserted to Kelby Bolton. Bolton slapped a ball from the circle towards the cage. Jess Jaindl deflected it off her stick and high into the cage for the Eagles' goal.
With 22 minutes remaining in the second half, lightning interrupted the game for a half hour.
Coach Camrin Azzarano took advantage of the extra intermission to make some adjustments. Azzarano said that she was happy with the way the defense stepped up and helped generate more offensive opportunities. The Eagles earned a few fastbreak opportunities and three more penalty corners in the second half, but were unable to score.
The Diplomats netted one more goal with four minutes remaining to seal the game.
The Eagles play No. 16 Lebanon Valley College on the road at 6 p.m. Saturday.
