LANGHORNE, Pa.-The Eastern University Softball bats came
alive with a pair of lopsided shutout wins at Philadelphia Biblical
University. Janelle Fair was a walk away for a perfect game in a 19-0
win in five innings for the opener, and Maggie McGowan faced only two
over the minimum in a 12-0 win in the nightcap.
Eastern scored in
every inning in the opener to support Fair. The junior pitcher helped
herself with a season-best five hits. First-year second baseman Emily
Houk drove in five. The Eagles pounded out 23 hits in the five innings,
and eight different players doubled. Jaclyn Gangemi had a double and a
triple in her 4-for-5 performance.
Fair was dominant in her five innings of work with six strike outs in the 16 batters she faced.
The
Eagles continued to pound PBU pitching in game two, and eight PBU
errors helped the Eastern cause. After scoring a single run in the
first, the Eagles struck for three in the second, and four runs in the
third and fourth before going scoreless for the first time all day in
the fifth.
Jessica Baker and Gangemi each had three RBIs in the
second game. McGowan struck out four and only walked one in her one-hit
performance in the circle.
The Eagles (12-7-1) are at DeSales for an important conference doubleheader this Saturday.
