GLENSIDE, Pa.- Though Eastern University Softball only scored in one
inning in their doubleheader at Arcadia, the Eagles made their four-run
3rd in the nightcap stand up as they battled for a split. The Eagles
lost a 2-0 pitchers' duel in game one, but they held on for a 4-3 win
after jumping to a 4-0 lead in the second game.
The Eagles did all
their damage after two were out in the third. The Eagles loaded the
bases with a walk, a Maggie McGowan single, and a hit batsman. Emily
Houk reached on an error to plate a run, and Katelyn Donald delivered a
three-run double to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.
Arcadia (10-6) had
three hits in the fourth off McGowan, but the Knights were only able to
grab one run back. The Knights secured unearned runs in the fifth and
sixth innings to further trim the Eastern edge to 4-3, but Fair pitched
an efficient seventh in relief to pickup her second save of the season.
McGowan
had two of the four Eastern hits in the second game. The senior allowed
nine hits in six innings, but she only walked a single batter as she
picked up her third win of the season.
Eastern (9-6) only managed
three hits in support of game one starter Janelle Fair. Arcadia scored
single tallies in the third and the sixth to to secure the win. Fair
scattered seven hits over six innings and walked only one while striking
out a season-high eight batters. McGowan had two of the three Eastern
hits in the opening game.
The Eagles are scheduled to host King's
in an important Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday, but
threatening forecasts have led to some schedule uncertainty. Check
