LANCASTER, Pa.- Despite getting a pair of solid pitching
efforts, Eastern University Softball dropped a doubleheader at Franklin
& Marshall College. The host Diplomats (7-7) held the Eastern bats
to six hits on the afternoon and took the doubleheader by 4-2 and 3-1
scores.
Maggie McGowan pitched the opener and allowed only three
earned runs, but the Eagles still trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of
the seventh. Eastern scrambled for a pair of two-out runs, but the rally
proved not to be enough as the Eagles ran out of outs.
The Eagles
could not muster a hit off F & M starting pitcher Justine Lohrey
through the first five innings, but the Eagles stayed in the game behind
solid defense and the pitching of Janelle Fair. Fair gave up
back-to-back doubles to open the second inning, but then matched Lohrey
zero for zero.
Fair tied the game with a home run to left in the
top of the sixth, but that lead proved to be short-lived as the F & M
shortstop Samantha Ginder answered with a two-run homer in the bottom
of the frame.
Eastern (7-5) is back in action at Arcadia University on Thursday.
