Women's Basketball Falls To LBC

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Women's Basketball dropped its home opener 64-56 on Saturday afternoon to Lancaster Bible College.

The Eagles connected on 20-of-75 shots in the loss to finish with a 26.7 field goal percentage. From behind the arc, the Eagles shot 6-for-29 (20.7 percent).

After scoring 35 points against Rosemont, sophomore Meghan Nowak continued to lead the Eagles in the scoring column with 22 points. Nowak also grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

Teammate Kaitlyn Dougherty added 15 points and eight rebounds.

Lancaster Bible senior Lauren Heliger shot 13-for-27 (48 percent) and scored a game-high 29 points. Chargers' Brooklyn Wilson added 12 points.

Eastern trailed Lancaster Bible by nine with 3:19 remaining in the first half. The Eagles then went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes with Tieara Nichelson's free throw at 1:19 putting Eastern within one, 25-26. After a layup by LBC's Heliger, Wilson hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining to put the Chargers up by six going into halftime.

In the second half, Eastern narrowed the margin to a one-point deficit with a jump shot by Tori Grossi at 10:22. However, the Eagles did not score again until 3:55 remained, and the six minute scoring drought left them behind 45-53.

A Gina DiDomenico 3-pointer at 1:52 brought the Eagles within four, 53-57, but that was as close as they would come to making the comeback.

The non-conference loss evens the Eagles' record this season at 1-1. They look to bounce back on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Battle of Eagle Road at neighboring Cabrini College.
