ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Women's Soccer earned a
fourth straight win with a 3-1 home win over Susquehanna University.
Kelsey Doutrich, Amy Thomas, and Alysia Goodman scored goals in the win.
Earlier
in the week, new nets were hung from the game goals on Olson Field. It
was fitting that Doutrich became the first player to find the back of
the net on the new goal. The senior midfielder took a pass from Victoria
Graham in the 25th minute and bounced it off the inside of the left
upright for her 48th career tally.
Almost exactly three minutes
later, Graham created a second goal with a well placed cross to the back
post. Amy Thomas met the ball perfectly and hit the net for her third
goal in the last four games. Thomas has played an integral part in the
Eagles' attack during the four game winning streak. The senior forward
has three goals and a pair of assists in the run.
The Eagles held
a 12-6 advantage in first-half shots,and a 7-1 edge in corners, but
the Eastern lead remained at 2-0 going into the intermission. Goodman
made two saves in the opening half.
Goodman saw her first action
as a field player since her freshman year to start the second half. The
two-time All-Region goalkeeper came to Eastern as a forward. With the
emergence of Elayna Simpson as a very solid goalkeeper, the Eastern
staff elected to see if Goodman could give the Eastern attack a boost.
One
day after her 22nd birthday, Goodman made her presence felt up top with
her second goal of the year. Three minutes into the period. Goodman
followed an errant cross into the box and was there to poke the ball
home after the ball squirted out from under the Susquehanna goalkeeper.
The Crusaders grabbed some momentum back with a breakaway goal from Marissa DeParto three minutes later.
"That
was a very frustrating breakdown for us," Head Coach Dan Mouw stated
after the game, "I felt like Alysia would give us a shot of enthusiasm
up front, and she did that, but we became way less attentive than we
should have been and we got caught in that. I don't feel like we ever
totally got back into the right mindset after that. We know that we will
need to be more attentive as we get into the heart of the conference
schedule."
