ST. DAVIDS, Pa.-Recent history between Eastern University
Women's Soccer and the visiting Salisbury University Sea Gulls suggested
that today's non-league game at Eastern would be close. At the end of
110 minutes of action, neither team was able to solve the other team's
defense and both sides would settle for a draw.
While Eastern had
won each of the last two decisions, the 2010 game ended in overtime, and
last year Kelsey Doutrich scored in the 86th minute and again in the
89th for a 2-0 win.
There would be no late heroics this year.
Salisbury (10-5-1), the top seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic
Conference Tournament, got seven saves from Michelle Conrad. Their best
chance of the match came in the 105th minute of action when Victoria Luc
struck a ball from eighteen yards that grazed the outside of the left
upright.
Alysia Goodman answered Conrad's seven saves with eight
of her own. Goodman, who as only allowed one goal since Sept. 19, was
dangerous in the box on a pair of corner kicks in the second overtime.
"I
felt we were much better in winning the individual battles of the game
after the first 45 minutes," Head Coach Dan Mouw stated. "As a result,
we had more good chances as the game progressed. It is great to get a
good non-league test in as we prepare for the Freedom Conference
Tournament."
The Eagles (9-5-3) finish the regular season with a
home test against Delaware Valley College at noon Saturday. The program
will honor its eight seniors prior to the match.
