ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Field Hockey controlled Saturday's homecoming match against Misericordia University, scoring eight times in the win.
The Eagles scored four goals in each half in the 8-0 win Saturday morning and improved to 10-5 (3-1 Freedom). Misericordia dropped its 13th straight game and fell to 2-13 this season (0-4 Freedom).
Eastern's offense maintained possession for almost the entire game, aided by strong defensive play that held Misericordia to one shot on goal and just five shots the entire game. Eastern shot 25 times, including 17 on goal. The Eagles earned 18 corners in the win while the Cougars earned five, all in the second half.
Senior Brittany Moyer scored two first half goals and assisted two more goals, giving her six points on the day and a team-high 36 this season. Fellow senior Kelby Bolton also scored twice, netting her seventh and eighth goals of the season.With her second assist of the afternoon, Moyer tied the singl-season mark of 16 set in 2006 by Genna Brant.Â
Bolton's younger sister Megan Bolton put the Eagles on the scoreboard just before the 16-minute mark, slapping a ball in off a corner from Brittany Moyer. Moyer scored back-to-back goals, in the 21st minute and the 25th minute. Kaycie Andrew and Jess Jaindl received assists on those goals.
Eastern increased its lead to 4-0 in the 31st minute when Megan Bolton slapped another ball hard from just outside the circle, bounced it off a Misericordia defender and over the Cougars' goalie for the own goal.
Misericordia brought in a different goalie for the second half, but the Eagles put up a four-spot again. Kelby Bolton knocked in a corner pass by Brittany Moyer in the 37th minute and Jess Jaindl finished a pass on the left post from Abby Wagner in the 39th minute to make the score 6-0. Bolton scored again in the 48th with an assist from Shannon Graybill, and defender Hannah Bartholomew joined in the scoring action, netting an unassisted goal in the 55th minute for her first collegiate goal.
Eastern played three goalies. Kylie Jones, Veronica Rayer and Jennifer O'Neil, over the course of the shutout. Jones received the win playing 55 minutes in goal. She improved to 4-3.
The Eagles have three remaining regular season games. They travel to Manhattanville College for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday.
