PURCHASE, N.Y.--Eastern Field Hockey scored eight goals for the second game in a row, cruising to an 8-4 victory over the Manhattanville College Valiants Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles, with their third straight victory, improved to 12-4 this season and 4-1 in the Freedom Conference. The Valiants fell to 10-6 (3-2 Freedom). Eastern's 4-1 record has them at the top of the conference with two games remaining.
Eagles' junior Jess Jaindl scored her second hat trick of the season in Wednesday's win. Senior Kelby Bolton added two goals, and Megan Bolton and Brittany Moyer each added one. Moyer, tied with Jaindl for a team-high 11 goals, also assisted three goals, giving her 19 assists this season, an Eastern single season record. Moyer now has 40 career assists, tied for second all-time behind Yvonne Herbster's 46.
Eastern scored all eight goals in the first half, starting in the sixth minute when Kelby Bolton slapped in a ball after a Brittany Moyer penalty corner insert. Jess Jaindl scored less than a minute later off Moyer's second assist.
Manhattanville cut Eastern's lead to 2-1 in the eighth minute with the first of Amanda DeChent's three goals. DeChent leads Manhattanville with 27 goals this season. One minute and one second later, Eastern responded with Moyer tapping in a rebound from Sarah Webb's shot.
Eastern went up 4-1 in the 13th minute off another corner, with Megan Bolton doing the honors.
Kelby Bolton had a chance to make it 5-1, but missed her first penalty stroke of the season, hitting the left post in the 14th minute. Eastern scored less than 30 seconds later on a Manhattanville own goal.
Jaindl then scored back-to-back goals in the 28th and 29th minutes and Kelby Bolton made it 8-1 four seconds before halftime.
Eastern earned seven penalty corners and took 21 shots in the first period, and earned six penalty corners and took 12 shots in a scoreless second half.
Kylie Jones played goal all 70 minutes for the Eagles and saved 10 shots.
The Eagles play FDU-Florham at home at 1 p.m. Saturday for their second-to-last regular season game.
