ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--In front of a crowd overflowing from the stands, the Eastern Eagles men's soccer team battled against the Cabrini Cavaliers Saturday night. Eastern struck first but two second half goals by Cabrini doomed the Eagles. With the 2-1 loss, the Eagles record dropped to an even 3-3.
Eastern students arrived at the away game in droves, virtually splitting the stadium seating with the home team's fans.
"It was a high intensity, passionate game," Coach Mark Wagner said. "You got the two cross-the-street rivals and it was more about battling than it was about skill and tactics. It was about sheer will to win, and my hat's off to [Cabrini]. They had it more tonight than we did. They won more 50/50 balls in the air and on the ground and they tackled harder. The only stat we 'beat' them in was fouls."
Cabrini outshot Eastern 12 to two.
Eastern scored its lone goal in the 30th minute when Pablo Villeda, who came off the bench, received a pass from Braden Gross and shot it from 25 yards out. The ball caromed off the top of the cross bar and into the goal.
