Volleyball Tops Cabrini in Three

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Volleyball celebrated Homecoming Saturday with a 3-0 win over Eagle Road rival Cabrini College. The choice of opponent was fitting as the volleyball program welcomed back alumnae from many of the teams that won 10 straight PAC Championships. Led by Courtney Reinhold's game-high 16 kills, the No. 5 Eagles hit an impressive .410 in the winning effort.

Reinhold buried three consecutive kills to help the home side build an 8-1 lead in the opening set. Fellow All-American Maria Horning jumped into the act midway through the set with three kills of her own to build the Eastern lead to 20-6 and force a Cabrini timeout. Horning finished the match with four kills and 40 assists. Eastern won the opening set 25-11.

The Eagles (20-1) jumped out to an early lead in the second set, but the Cavaliers (12-9) battled back to take a lead at 11-10. A Cabrini service error and kills from Reinhold and Rachel Wenger put the Eagles back in control of the set. Wenger, a middle hitter, converted five kills on only eight swings and also tallied three blocks. Strong passing and solid serving propelled the Eagles to a 25-22 win in the second set.

The Eagles never trailed on the way to a 25-15 win in the final set. With blood in the water, the Eastern hitters pounded 16 kills with only asingle error for a .556 hitting percentage. Katrina Pisch pounded the the penultimate kill before Horning dropped a tip on the line to end the match. Pisch hit .500 for the match with nine kills and three blocks.

Kelly Groff paced the Eastern defense with a match-best 19 digs. Danielle Carrozza had seven kills to lead Cabrini.

The Eagles return to Freedom Conference play with a home game against Misericordia on Wednesday and will travel to Christopher Newport University for a single match against the No. 6 Captains on Friday.
