Eastern Women's Lacrosse scored ten
first-half goals en route to an 18-8 MAC win at Manhattanville College. Jess Field
scored five times, and Kelly Dando
and Krystal Cairns each registered six point days in the victory.
The trip to Purchase has been a tough one for
many of Eastern's teams, and
the Eagles (6-6, 5-2 MAC) started slowly after the extended bus ride.
The Valiants held a 4-3 lead
with slightly less than eight
minutes to play in the opening half. Grace Griffith scored two straight goals to
spark a 7-0 run over the final 7:15 of the half. Griffith scored her first of the day an assist from Kendall Rood. She buried her second 90 seconds later on an Allie Fultz pass. That goal was the 50th of the year for the junior
from Amherst, Mass.
Dando then set up Field for two
goals just 23 seconds apart. Dando
picked up her third straight helper with a pass to Griffith with 3:42 remaining in the half. The
sophomore midfielder then scored her second of the day on a pass from
Cairns to give the visiting Eagles a 9-4 lead. Cairns made it 10-4 with just seconds to go in the
half.
The Eagles continued to
force the action through the first half of the second half as Fultz joined Cairns, Dando, Field, and Griffith in the goal-scoring column.
Rood finished Eastern's
scoring with two minutes to
play.
The Eastern staff was
pleased with the team's
response to the early deficit. Lindsey Moosey led the Eastern defense with four ground balls and three
caused turnovers, and Lindsey Corbitt
made seven saves in the win.
The Eagles, who have swept
four straight road games, will return home this Saturday for a 1:30 game
against King's College.
