Eastern University Women's Lacrosse
honored a pair of seniors before their home game against the King's
College Monarchs this afternoon. Krystal Cairns and Sarah Hager then sparked the Eagles to a
convincing 17-1 win.
Hager took the opening draw of the
game and attacked the goal immediately. After getting fouled in the
eight, she buried her free position shot to put Eastern up 1-0 after
just 17 seconds. Hager
finished the day with a pair
of goals. More importantly, the senior midfielder pulled the majority of
the draws and the Eagles dominated possession with 15 of 20 controls. Hager controlled seven to lead all
Eastern players.
Just seconds after the first goal, Cairns
set up Kendall Rood on a beautiful feed and finish from the edge of the crease. Cairns finished with three goals and three assists for the second
consecutive game. The senior attack has made the most of her opportunity
to play near the goal for the first time in her career. The former low
defender now has 14 goals and a team-best 32 assists.
Cairns set up Kelly Dando with another nice feed at the five
minute mark, and the Eagles scored twice more before the game was eleven
minutes old. Dando set up
Grace Griffith at 21:45, and
Griffith returned the favor
at 19:38.
The game went
backwards for the Eagles for a bit after Dando's second of the day, and
Eastern Head Coach Camrin Azzarano took a time out to fix
things. She explained, "We got into some stagnant play, and we were not
running things the way were supposed to."
The Eastern offense found its rhythm with just under seven minutes to
play when Allie Fultz
flipped a high pass to the front of the crease. Griffith jumped, caught the ball, and
buried her 54th of the year
with one motion. Griffith then scored on a free position
shot and set up Rood and Cairns for the final two goals of the half.
The junior from Amherst, Mass finished the game with five goals and a career best
six assists.
The second halffeatured more ball control from the Eagles as Fultz,
Griffith, and Cairns each
collected a pair of goals. Hager
scored her third of the year and Lindsey Moosey closed the scoring with her second tally of the
campaign.
Lindsey Corbitt made five saves and
allowed just a single late free-position goal.
Eastern returns to action on Wednesday with an important home game against Elizabethtown College.
