Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#8 Field Hockey Tops Delaware Valley

The Eagles then showed their quality with a steady 4-0 win at Delaware Valley College to secure their second unbeaten run through the Freedom Conference regular season in a row.

This afternoon's contest was the first of the year on grass for the Eagles (16-2, 7-0), and the squad took a little bit of time to adjust to the surface.

"Their field was in great shape," Eastern Head Coach Camrin Azzarano commented, "but it is different to play on grass. We made steady adjustments over the course of the game, and I was very pleased with how we played."

The Eagles had the better of the action early, but the Aggies defended their turf well from the outset and did not let their visitors get into space behind. Eastern picked up their first break with a penalty corners with nearly 13 minutes to play in the opening half. Christin Haas played the ball in and Brittany Moyer cracked her second touch off the backboard for a 1-0 lead.

Eastern had an 8-2 advantage in first-half shots, but they were unable to find an insurance goal until the 56th minute of action. Yvonne Herbster made the play with a strong run up the wing and an able pass into Moyer's path. Moyer slid her shot inside the left upright for her second of the day and 10th of the year.

"I felt Brittany and Yvonne worked really well together today," Azzarano commented, "those two have been working to try to find each other, and the goal was great." The combination between the two was more critical today without the presence of senior Kim Campbell who missed the game with injury.

Kelby Bolton buried a penalty stroke to increase the Eastern advantage to 3-0 in the 63rd minute, and Herbster worked a breakaway two and a half minutes later to give the Eagles their final edge.

Laura Ressler made three saves in goal to secure the team's eighth shut-out of the year. By virtue of other results around the league, Delaware Valley (10-9, 4-3) qualified for post-season play and could either be the third or fourth seed in the upcoming playoffs.

The Eagles conclude their regular season Thursday night at William Paterson.
