was a surprise
that the Eagles spent a good portion of the last two days working alongside the Lynchburg College team shoveling snow off Lynchburg's field to prepare the surface for a pair of games today.
The Eastern team then put together a solid effort to down a young Randolph College team and earn Head Coach Brandon Childs his first career win. Childs was able to achieve that win on the field where he toiled as a collegiate player and as an assistant coach.
Nine different Eastern players scored goals in their 18-0 win. Senior Nick Mandia scored twice and set up five goals for a seven point day. The Eagles jumped to a 3-0 lead at the quarter on goals from Nick Mandia, Ben O'Donnell, and Matt Colello. Mandia's first goal of the day came on an assist from his younger brother Matt.
The Eagles broke the game open with eight goals in in the second quarter. First year players Matt Wagner and Joey Wilmot each picked up goals in that second period run. Eastern Coach Brandon Childs
spoke about the day with respect for what the Randolph Coaching staff
is setting out to do. "They are going to build the program here, but
they know it is going to be a process. We have a few years head start
on them, and while we feel like we are not deep compared to some of the
top teams out there, we have enough talented players where we can put
people in specific roles. We are grateful to be able to get a game in
with the weather being as bad as it was, and we appreciate the
hospitality we have felt in Lynchburg."
The Eagles will work at the Young Life Camp tomorrow before returning home.
