Only two days after dropping a tough 2-1 loss against TCNJ, Eastern Field Hockey bounced back and earned a win by the same score against Swarthmore College. Kim Campbell and Sarah Garber scored for the Eagles.
The host Garnet controlled much of the action early as the Eagles, playing their third game in five days, struggled to find their legs. The unseasonably hot weather combined with drenching humidity made things tough for both teams, but after battling #2 TCNJ for 100 minutes on Thursday, the Eagles seemed less than themselves.
Swarthmore seized the advantage and converted as Abbe Muller tapped in her second goal of the year with just under eight minutes before half to give the Garnet the lead at the break. The hosts enjoyed a 12-10 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in penalty corners at the half.
The Eagles responded out of the break as Campbell slotted home her sixth of the year on a pretty pass from Kristin Brownett. The game remained level until the 61st minute. Eastern earned just three second half penalty corners, but they were able to convert one of those into the game winner.
Garber pushed the ball out to Lindsay Moyer. Moyer carried the ball into the circle and was able to strike a ball toward goal. Olivia Derr redirected that strike to Garber in front of the cage. Garber converted for her second of the year.
Eastern returns to action at Montclair State this Wednesday. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
