Eastern University used three big innings en route to a key 15-6 win at Marywood University Friday afternoon. The win keeps the Eagles' playoff hopes alive. Eastern right-fielder Sean Ciletti scored three runs and drove in four to spark the attack for the visitors.
After a scoreless first, the Eagles picked up three runs on three bases loaded walks in the second to take a 3-0 lead. They would then plate five more in the fourth to grab an 8-0 lead. Davis Murray belted a two-run double to left for the big hit of the inning.
Brian Miller pitched his second nine-inning complete-game win for Eagles. The freshman from Havertown, allowed 10 hits while striking out four and gave up just four earned runs on the day. Ciletti enjoyed a big day at the plate for Eastern, going 2-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Ciletti belted a two-run triple in the sixth. Four other Eagles finished with two RBI on the day.
For Marywood, Mark Granquist took the loss on the mound after allowing seven earned runs over 3 1/3 innings of work. Joseph Valvano pitched four innings of relief for Marywood, allowing five runs on seven hits. Jeff Cleary pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.
The seventh league win of the year sets a new high-water mark for Eastern baseball and keeps the Eagles in the running for the final spot in the PAC playoffs. The Eagles will need help as both Misericordia and Centenary have tie-breakers on the Eagles. In order for any of the other results, the Eagles will need to pick up both games of tomorrow's doubleheader against the Pacers. Those games are scheduled to start at noon.
