Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

April 15: Women's Lacrosse Downs Alvernia

The Eastern University women's lacrosse team returned to the friendly confines of Olson Field on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The Eagles, who are battling injury and illness, found the firepower to jump to a quick 9-0 lead and held on for a 16-6 win.

Jess Field scored all three of her goals in the opening thirteen minutes of the game. Erin Reimel scored three first half goals and added three assists for the game. Erin Fries was the third Eastern player to record a hat trick for the day.

Field opened the scoring with a nice driving goal with just under two minutes played. Remiel then set up Fries just 13 seconds later. Field and Reimel added goals before Field completed her first college hat trick with 18 and a half minutes to play. Field now has seven goals on the year. Reimel then set up Katie Choquette and Fries on consecutive goals to give Eastern a 7-0 lead midway through the period.

Grace Griffith who would finish with two goals and three assists on the afternoon entered the scoring column with a free position goal with 13 minutes left in the half.  The Eagles Alvernia's McKenna Shafer, who finished with a game-high 4 goals, and Reimel each scored a pair of goals in the closing moments of the first half as the teams went to the break with a 10-2 score.

Eastern fired 16 shots in the first half. The Crusaders took eight shots. Kim Campbell made three of her four saves in the first half hour. The Eagles stormed out of the break with six straight goals in the first nine minutes for their final tally of the day. Anne Dietrich scored a pair of second half goals.

Coach Azzarano was pleased to see players step up for those out with injury. She said, "We were looking to create goals out of our offense, and I was pleased with the quality of the goals we scored. It was good to see jess drive to the goal with confidence early." The Eagles will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Centenary College for an important PAC match-up.
