showed marathon runner-like patience as they took advantage of 15 walks and 6 hit batsmen in a 23-8 win. The victory is the sixth straight for the Eagles (6-8, 3-0 PAC). Brian Miller allowed four earned runs in six innings to pick up the win.
Neumann jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. the Eagles put runners at 1st and second with none out in the bottom of the second. Chris Dole snapped a hard shot toward third that turned into a 5-3 double play. Sophomore left-fielder Ryan Doran picked the Eagles up with a two-out rbi single to tie the game. Doran would reach base six of the seven times he came to the plate on the afternoon with three hits and a pair of walks.
Miller worked efficient third and fourth innings, but Neumann's Mike Collichio had to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the third. In the fourth, the Eagles offense began to get traction as Dole singled to lead off the inning. Phil Clark pinch ran for Dole and stole second. Doran singled sharply and Clark held at third to keep the rally alive. The Eagles then strolled patiently around the bases for six runs as five players walked and another two were hit by pitches.
With a 7-1 lead going into the fifth, Miller needed to put together a fifth inning to qualify for the win. He struggled with command early in the ining, but was able to work himself out of a jam with just two runs scoring. The Eagles took both runs back in the bottom of the fifth when Davis Murray knocked in Andrew Reynolds and Polk singled home Murray.Â
Miller finished his day working out of another jam with just one run scored in the sixth. Andrew Reynolds worked through a scoreless seventh. Freshman left-hander Josh Alley looked as though he had pitched his way out of a jam in the eighth, but an infield hit kept the inning alive for Lincoln Schrock. Schrock gave the visiting Knights their lone bright spot of the day with a two-out grand slam.Â
The Eagles picked up their staff with eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Coach Curley said of the three-hour and forty-five minute marathon, "We did what we were supposed to do today. We didn't swing at bad pitches, and we were able to take advantage of the situations that presented themselves. We are on a nice run now, but we have to continue this Friday against Misericordia."
Kenny Long who pitched a complete game yesterday gave the Eagles 4 RBI as a first baseman today. Andrew Reynolds enjoyed success from both sides of the plate and knocked in three runs with his three hit afternoon.
