Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

March 12: Lyco Spoils Women's Lacrosse Opener

Warriors scored the final goal of the game with 6:43 on the clock and held off the Eagles (0-1) for an 11-10 win. Erin Reimel scored three times for the Eagles.

First-year attack Grace Griffith started here career off quickly with goal in her first 90 seconds of collegiate lacrosse. She took a Jessie Basch pass on the wing, and beat a pair of Lycoming defenders to give the Eagles a quick 1-0 lead. Reimel scored her first on a Griffith pass just moments later to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Despite goals from Katie Choquette and Reimel, the visitors began to control tempo and seized control of the game to take a 7-4 led into the break. Lycoming's Kristina Peacock made six of her ten saves for the game in the opening period.

The second half started poorly for the Eagles as the visitors scored twice in the opening moments to seize a five goal lead. The Eagles then started their comeback. Sarah Hager scored her first of the year just over five minutes into the half on a feed from Basch. Basch then scored her first of the year on a solo attack from behind the cage. Lycoming's Megan Wallenhurst answered Basch's tally with her third goal of the game and forced Eastern head coach Camrin Azzarano to take a time-out.

Out of the break, the Eagles continued to press, and after forcing their guests into a turnover were able to again cut the Lycoming lead to three goals on Griffith's second goal of the day. Katie Choquette picked up her second of the day on another Basch helper. The Eagles then tied the game with two straight free-position goals from Reimel and Basch.

After back and forth action, Wallenhurst was able to create the final goal of the game on a nice inside pass to Christi Karr.  The Warriors were able to kill much of the remaining clock with possession in the Eastern zone. Coach Azzarano was optimistic after the game. She said, "We saw a lot o good things today. We certainly have things to work on, but I am pleased with the performance of our first-year players in their first college game. I thought Sarah's goal was big in starting our comebck, and I think that we showed good character in coming back. We hope that we can learn lessons from today as we start our conference season this weekend."

The Eagles will play Cedar Crest at home on Saturday before hosting Cabrini in a critical PAC match-up on Tuesday.
