Eastern University Men's Lacrosse jumped out in front of the 6th ranked Fords and held a 3-2 lead with five minutes to go in the first half. Haverford rallied with eight straight goals and emerged with a 13-5 win.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first minute as Michael Hofmeister collected a Nick Mandia pass on the right side and scored on a bouncing shot from 15 yards out. The Fords leveled the score with just under nine minutes to play, but the Eagles responded quickly with a man-up goal from Michael Ryan. Ben O'Donnell got credit for the assist on that goal. The visitors again tied the score with five to play in the first on a nice unassisted goal from Dean Granoff.
Zach Rivest made four saves in he opening period as Haverford put six shots on goal in the first fifteen minutes. The Eagles put just three shots on goal in the first. O'Donnell opened the scoring in the second period 90 seconds in on a Madia pass. The Eastern defense made that advantage hold up until just under five minutes to play. Haverford freshman Max Hjelm connected on his first of four goals on the afternoon to tie the game. Mike Distler then broke the tie with two minutes to play on a pass from Granoff.Â
Haverford scored the first six goals of the second half with a strong third period. Mandia closed the period with his first goal of the afternoon, but the Haverford had opened up the game as they out-shot the Eagles 13-2 in the frame.
O'Donnell struck for his second of the day to open the fourth, but the Haverford attack finished the game with much of the possession and three straight goals for the final margin. Rivest ended the day with 18 saves. Haverford's Jake Mendlinger made nine saves.
Hjelm led all scorers with four goals and four assists, while Brian Fleishhacker finished with three goals. O'Donnell led the Eagles with two goals and an assist. Eastern returns to action Wednesday afternoon against PAC favorite Cabrini.
