Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls at Cabrini

Cabrini this evening.  Shaneen Brown recorded a season-best 18 rebounds in the loss.

The Cavaliers took advantage of two quick fouls on Hannah Tobin and jumped to a 14-3 lead five minutes into the game. The Eagles responded with a brave barrage of triples on a 10-1 run. Emily Reeser and Mandy Kuiken sparked the run with three-pointers from opposite sides of the court. Patrice Freeman then earned a trip to the foul-line and Jeriah Garton nailed a 15 footer at the 11:21 mark.

The Cavaliers quickly stretched their advantage back to nine with seven straight points. Reeser again stopped the run with a three pointer and two out of three from the foul line by Kuiken closed the lead to 22-18 with eight and a half to play. Cabrini point guard Deanna DiAmico took matters into her own hands with a three pointer and a nice assist to rebuild the Cavalier advantage.

Cabrini steadily stretched their advantage and led 43-30 at the break. Kuiken led all scorers at the break with 10 points. DiAmico and Kayleen Smith each had nine for the Cavaliers who shot 17-24 from the foul line in the first half. The Eagles made 8-11 foul shots, but the deeper Cavaliers were not saddled with nearly the foul trouble the Eagles had. Hannah Tobin hit her only shot in the first half, but she played just three minutes.

Eastern kept the deficit in the fifteen to sixteen point range for the first fourteen minutes of the second half, but the Cavaliers executed their offense for good shots and answered every Eastern basket with one or two of their own. Tobin caught fire briefly with four straight baskets, but the efficiency of the Cabrini offense negated her scoring.

Tobin finished with a team-high 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Kuiken finished the game with 12. DiAmico and Brittany McLeod finished with 15 points to share game-high honors. Shaneen Brown's career-best effort on the boards also came with six points and thre blocked shots.

Coach Levis said of the game, "Foul trouble hurt us, but they [Cabrini] executed very well, and their depth and experience was too much for us. Shaneen continues to show great progress, and we are looking forward to seeing her develop her offensive game to go with her rebounding."

The Cavaliers are 13-2 in PAC play and advance to the PAC playoffs. The Eagles will look to end their year on a winning note when they travel to Immaculata Thursday night for their season finale. The Mighty Macs edged the Eagles in overtime last week.
