Eagles overcame a late four point deficit to down Immaculata 59-58.
Hannah Tobin hit the game-winner with just over ten seconds left. The game winner would not have been possible without the Eagles executing down the stretch and Mandy Kuiken's record-setting performance. In her final game, the senior guard connected on seven three-pointers for 21 points.
She had tied the previous record of six earlier in the year in a heart-breaking overtime loss. No shot was bigger than the one she hit with just under twenty seconds to play to cut Immaculata's lead to 58-57. Coach Levis said of the shot from the directly in front of the bench. "We were looking to penetrate, but Mandy got a good look at the 25-footer and dropped it. It was one of a couple really deep ones she made."
Down one, the Eagles had to foul and put the Mighty Macs to the line for a one and one situation. The Immaculata player missed the front end, and Shaneen Brown came down with the rebound. Levis said of that moment, "the similarities between this game and the last one were amazing, and we showed our growth through that. We executed the little things on the missed free throw to give ourselves the chance to win the game.
After an Eastern time out, the Mighty Macs extended their zone to account for Kuiken. Kuiken slipped a pass into Tobin at the elbow, and the sophomore dropped in the fourteen-footer for the lead. The Eagles still had to finish the game with a defensive stop. Good ball pressure forced a loose ball, and the Mighty Macs never got a shot off. Levis said of the effort. "This is a really positive way for us to finish the year. I am really pleased that Mandy and Patrice finished their careers with outstanding performances in an exciting team win."
Kuken finished with game high honors and had seven rebounds three assists and no turnovers. Tobin finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Patrice Freeman finished with 13 points and Joelle DeCarlo scored eight of her eleven points in a critical stretch int he second half.
Nina Cammarano finished with 16 for the Mighty Macs. Kuiken and Freeman will graduate, but the steady improvement of the young players and the whole team is cause for encouragement for the future.
