Eastern University Men's Basketball struggled to defend the perimeter in falling at York. The Spartan's hit 10-18 from behind the three point line and exploded on a 29-10 run in the second half to break open the game and cruise to a 99-76 win. Matt Flanagan and Joe Manzo each scored 12 points for the Eagles.
The game started out well enough, as Flanagan scored 10 early points on just four shots to help the Eagles to a 17-9 lead five minutes into the game. York then scored eight straight points tie the game. The lead bounced back and forth until Matt Malloy tied the game at 29 on a twisting lay-up in traffic with just under six minutes to play in the opening half.
York's Levi Winters hit two straight three-pointers to lift the Spartans to a 35-29 lead. Flanagan answered with a mid-range jumper, but the hosts continued to build their advantage with a 12-4 run on the way to a 47-35 halftime edge.
The Eagles shot 50% for the first half, but the Spartans shot 52%, and hit 5-10 from behind the arc. Flanagan's two early treys were the only long range baskets for the Eagles. Eastern also missed opportunities at the foul line as they connected on just 5-9 attempts.
A quick 10-4 burst to open the second half brought the Eagles to within six at 51-45, but another Winters' trey sparked a torrid 29-10 run for the hosts, and put the game out of reach for good.  Manzo connected on a pair of three pointers and provided a lift, but the Eagles were unable to close the gap as the game closed.
Perhaps the most telling statistic of the game was not the shooting percentages, but the assist numbers. The Spartans consistently made the extra pass and registered 28 assists on their 38 field goals. The Eagles had just 15 assists on the evening.
The Eagles return to action in the consolation game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic tomorrow at 2:00 pm against Johns Hopkins University.
