Eastern University Softball team struggled to find their offense. The trip, however, did give the Eagles opportuntiy to get in much needed practice time as well as six games.
In the six games, the Eagles went 1-5, but showed improvement and won in their final game over Bethany College from West Virginia. After the tournament oragnizers had to scuttle their original schedule when the Blufton College women's softball team remained in Ohio following the baseball tragedy, the Eagles saw their original schedule reduced to six games. The opportunity to practice was appreciated by the players and coaches. Fielding on infield is very different than taking ground balls on a gym floor. The Eagles were also able to see some live pitching on practice days, and this seemed to help as they made better contact as the week progressed.
Raychal Weis pitched well in both her performances with a win over Bethany and an extra inning loss to U.S. Merchant Marine. The sophomore posted a 2.45 era and gave up just a single walk in 14+ innings of work. The Eastern offense hit just .204 on the trip, and was only able to generate six runs in the week. As they have opportunity to see more live pitching, the Eastern bats should come alive in time for upcoming PAC games.
