IMMACULATA, Pa.— Eastern University Field Hockey (3-0) scored four times in the final 21 minutes of the game to claim a 4-1 win at Immaculata University and remain unbeaten on the season. Four different players scored for the Eagles and
Karlee Howard recorded a career-high three assists.
Despite a 9-to-1 edge in first-half shots and a 5-to-0 advantage in penalty corners before the break, the Eagles could not solve Immaculata goalie Makenzie Schrack and the game remained scoreless at the break.
The Mighty Macs (2-1) put pressure on the Eastern goal early in the second half, but
Angelina Catania made five stops in a three-minute stretch to keep the game level. Catania finished the game with eight saves.
The Eagles finally broke through on their seventh penalty corner of the game.
Julia Potter fed the top of the circle, and
CJ Summa slammed home her second of the year for a 1-0 lead.
Immaculata pushed forward to seek the equalizer, but the Eagles found joy in the counterattack. After escaping with an aerial ball Potter and Howard combined in the midfield before Howard slipped a pass into the circle. Rhyanna Ridgeway had only the goalkeeper to beat. After one quick move she slipped in her second of the year.
The Eagles went up 3-0 on a penalty-corner goal in the 52nd minute. After a slick cross-circle pass from Howard,
Alyssa Caldini lifted a shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for her second strike of the year.
The hosts grabbed one back on a rebound effort in the 54 the 54th minute before
Cameron Brancato scored from close range off another Howard feed for the final margin. It is the first time the eagles have had a player with three assists in a game since Alexa Borrelli had three in a 5-4 win over King's in September of 2013.
The Eagles will host Delaware Valley University on Friday at 4:00 pm.
