BETHLEHEM, Pa.— Eastern University Volleyball (2-1) picked up a pair of four-set wins at Moravian. The Eagles (2-1) won the final three sets against the host Greyhounds and turned around to win the final two sets against the Dickinson College Red Devils.
Jessie Schreiber hit over .300 in both matches and finished with 28 total kills.
After dropping a 25-20 decision in the opening set against Moravian, the Eagles rallied from an 18-15 deficit in the second set to win 25-21.
Josie Arezina had three kills in a a critical scoring run with
Alyssa Heffner at the service line. Arezina had five kills and Schreiber had seven as the Eagles used their right sides in the second set.
Eastern hit .467 to win the critical third set 25-18 before grinding out a 25-23 win in the fourth. In the match,
Grace Cooper led five Eastern players in double-digit kills with 16. Heffner had 26 assists and the Eagles posted 13 blocks as a team.
Bouncing back to play the neutral-site games, the Eagles won a tight 27-25 decision in the first set before falling 31-29 in a marathon second set. Eastern had a chance to take the frame at 24-22, but then had battled through five set points against before ultimately dropping the set. Schreiber had 11 of her career-high 17 kills in the first two sets.
In the critical third set, the Eagles put the Red Devils on their heels early and never looked back. Four aces and a. Well-rounded attack led by
Olivia McGowan with four kills and Arezina with three helped the Eagles to a 25-13 win.
The Eagles pulled away to a 25-23 win in the fourth after the two teams traded points throughout.
Alexis Standford delivered the final kill of the match. Cooper and McGowan each finished with 26 digs in hte Dickinson match, and
Sarah Furey had 24 assists.
"We are happy to pick up two hard-fought wins today," Head Coach
Mark Birtwistle said after the day. "Both matches were very close and we are learning to execute in pressure situations. Our right sides both had excellent days. We are looking forward to a fun trip to Chicago next weekend."
The Eagles had not played Moravian since 2019 and were playing Dickinson for just the second time since 2015.
Eastern is at North Park University for three matches next week.
