CHICAGO— Eastern University Women's Volleyball rallied to win the third set but was unable to extend the match further in a four-set loss to the John Carroll Blue Streaks in the opening round of the Windy City Invitational at North Park University.
Jessie Schreiber led the Eagles with 11 kills and
Grace Cooper recorded 19 digs.
After dropping the opening two sets, the Eagles found a rally after trailing 9-4 in the third.
Veronica Faber served for three points to pull the Eagles within one. Faber grabbed the first point on an ace before
C'Hannah Lawson and
Olivia McGowan put away kills to extend the rally. The Eagles took the lead for good in the frame on a
Piper Xeller kill with McGowan serving.
Sarah Furey served out the final three points of the set for a 25-20 win.
Eastern scored five points on blocks and another three on aces in the winning set. The Eastern block, however, was not a factor in the fourth\. John Carroll hit .615 with 16 kills and no errors in claiming the fourth set and the match.
Furey finished the match with 22 assists.
The Eagles (2-2) are back on the floor for another two Midwest matches tomorrow. They will play Kalamazoo at 11 and the host Vikings at 1:30. North Park beat Kalamazoo in the opening match of the tournament
