EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. — Eastern University Field Hockey (6-1) saw its perfect season come to a close with a 2-1 heartbreaking overtime non-league loss at Wilkes. The Eagles earned six fourth-quarter penalty corners and outshot the hosts 6-2 in the frame, but the Eagles were unable to break the tie and instead went to overtime. In the 69th minute, the Colonels (3-5) converted their third corner of the extra frame to earn the win.
Wilkes opened the scoring with a goal late in the first quarter and held that edge through the intermission. The Colonels had an 8-4 edge in first half shots.
The Eagles leveled the score less than three minutes into the second half.
Brynne Miller fired in her fourth goal of the year at the end of a well-executed corner sequence.
Karlee Howard picked up the assist on the play.
After an exhausting overtime, the Colonels jammed home a rebound on the penalty corner after
Angelina Catania made a tough stop for her 11th save of the night.
When the two sides met last year, Eastern earned a 2-1 win when
CJ Summa converted a stroke in the 69th minute.
The six-game winning streak to start the season is the longest since the Eagles won their first 12 games in 2006. Eastern will look to bounce back with a home game against Lancaster Bible on Saturday at 11:00 am.
