DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — Though the Eagles finished with a 16-to-7 edge in shots, Eastern University Men's Soccer settled for a 0-0 season-opening draw at Delaware Valley University.
The Eagles (0-0-1) had a flurry of chances midway through the first half.
Cullen Visscher put a shot off the crossbar from inside the box in the 25th minute Moments later,
Mauro Lence drew a foul near the top of the box. Joåo Tarabal put his free kick on goal but was unable to beat Aggie goalkeeper Nick Becker.
Zach Sievert then tested Becker with a hard shot from a tight angle to earn a corner that resulted in another Sievert shot. The next corner fell to
Morris Marshall, but his shot slipped wide.
Michael Arcuri made three of his five saves before halftime.
The Eagles had another pair of chances midway through the second half. Sievert forced a corner with a shot, and
Ryan Belmont had his header go wide. After a close offside call foiled another chance, the Eagles turned to Arcuri to help out. The junior transfer made a great diving stop on a first-time shot to the low corner to keep the game level. Arcuri's second save of the half came on free kick from just outside the box.
"It was a game about the keepers today," Head Coach
Luca Mellor said. " Michale made two great stops int he second half, and their guy made eight saves. Delaware Valley defended well, and their goalkeeper came up with a couple really good stops. We defended well and created chances."
The Eagles are at Centenary University on Saturday.
