GLENSIDE, Pa. - Eastern Field Hockey continued its red-hot start to the 2026 season with a 2-1 win at Arcadia on Saturday afternoon.
CJ Summa scored her fourth goal of the season of the season on a penalty stroke in the second quarter, and
Brynne Miller added her third goal of the season in the third frame. With the victory, the Eagles improved to 6-0. It is Field Hockey's best start to a season since 2006, when Eastern began the season 12-0.
After a quiet first quarter, Eastern rattled off seven shots in the second frame. Both Summa and
Ryhanna Ridgeway both recorded a pair of shots early, but Arcadia had the first big chance to take the lead late in the period after being awarded a penalty stroke. Junior
Angelina Catania stood tall, stopping Arcadia's Kyra Moyer with her left pad to keep the contest scoreless. Less than three minutes later, after being fouled going hard to the cage, Summa was also given a penalty stroke. The junior from Ellicott City, Md. made the most of her opportunity, firing her shot into the bottom left corner of the net to put the Eagles ahead 1-0 late in the first half.
The Eagles needed less than 90 seconds to double their lead early in the third quarter. Off a
Julia Potter insert, Summa's shot was blocked, but
Alyssa Caldini gathered the rebound and feathered a pass across the goal mouth to Miller. The graduate midfielder found the back of the cage with a backhand shot, putting the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Arcadia got a goal back less than two minutes later, cutting the Eastern lead in half, and rattled off five shots in the three minutes of the third quarter. Catania, once again, held her ground, making three huge saves on the doorstep to keep the Eagles' lead intact.
Eastern locked down defensively in the fourth quarter, allowing just one shot, which went wide, in the final 15 minutes of play. Catania made eight saves for her sixth win of the year.
The Eagles will be back on the road Tuesday for a 7:00 pm clash against Wilkes.
