MADISON, N.J.— Eastern University Field Hockey (5-0) scored the final four goals of the match to earn a 4-1 win at Drew and remain unbeaten on the year.
CJ Summa had a goal and two assists and
Angelina Catania made seven stops to earn the win.
The host Rangers (0-5) got on the board with a transition goal four and a half minutes into the contest. The hosts held that lead until the thirteenth minute when
Karlee Howard volleyed home a Summa cross from close range to tie the score.
Howard now has a team-high six goals through five matches.
In the second quarter, the Rangers owned most of the possession and put the Eastern defense under pressure. Catantia was active and her defenders had work to clear the zone as the Eagles hung on.
The Eagles started the second half on the front foot. Howard had an early shot and two minutes later, she did the work to draw the corner with a spinning run toward the circle off the left side.
On the first corner the of the second half, the Eagles elected to stay simple. After a good insert the top of the circle from Potter, Summa touched a ball into the circle and smacked home here third of the of the year and 25th career tally.
Though the Eagles had the majority of the possession n the second half, the result remained in question. Catania making several key stops and clearances through the third.
A 54th-minute penalty corner finally gave the Eagles the breathing room they craved.
Brynne Miller slammed home a rebound from close range after a Summa shot on their eighth penalty corner of the match. Though Miller's second goal of the year was unassisted, it was the result of a well executed corner. Three minutes later, the Eagles executed another corner.
After her insert, Potter found her way to the post. She remained ready as the Eagles moved the ball at the top of the circle and tapped home a Summa effort from close range for her first career goal.
Eastern Field Hockey has not won five matches in a row since they had an eight-game streak in 2015. Tonight's win is Eastern's first ever against the Rangers, Drew had claimed one-goal wins in each of the last two years.
The Eagles will travel to Arcadia on Saturday where they will look to keep their hot start going. That match is scheduled for noon. Later that afternoon, three former Eastern Field Hockey players will go into Eastern's Hall of Honor.
