MONTCLAIR, N.J.— In a season with several lopsided results, Eastern University Flag Football has now played two one-possession games against ECAC-rival Montclair State. Eastern claimed an 18-12 overtime win early in the year, but today, the Redhawks used the only made extra-point in the series to claim a 7-6 win.
Molly Schellpeper caught a fourth-quarter pass from
Kira Green for the only Eastern score of the game.
The Redhawks (5-1) earned the first stop of the game and converted a short field to a touchdown and converted the extra point.
The rest of the match was dominated by defenses. Kyla Massenberg had nine tackles and a pair of sacks, and
Jeriyah Johnson recorded an interception. The Eagles held their hosts to only eight first downs and less than 150 total yards.
The Redhawk defense was every bit as good. The Eagles were not able to gain yards rushing, and
Kira Green's nine completions had only three that were longer than ten yards.
Schellpeper caught one of those longer passes for a fourth-quarter score, but the Eagles were unable to convert the extra point to tie the game.
The Eagles will return to Atlantic East competition for a pair fo matches at Immaculata on Saturday.
