ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— Eastern University Men's Tennis took an important step toward securing a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament with a 7-0 home win over Alvernia.
With the Golden Wolves (1-9, 0-4) down a player, the Eagles needed just one win to claim the doubles point.
Jeffrey Day and
Jared Groff locked up the point with a 6-3 win at the second doubles spot.
Stephen Dottoli and
Peter Folga fell in a 7-4 tiebreak in their match at the top.
Groff made quick work of his opponent at No. 4 to secure the match, and the Eagles then found wins at the top of the order as well. Dottoli won 6-0, 6-3 at first singles, and Day claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at the second spot. Folga then finished the sweep with a 7-6, 6-3 win at the third spot.
The Eagles (6-5, 2-0) will play a non-league match at Muhlenberg tomorrow before running through potential post-season foes over the final week. They will be at Albright on Saturday before hosting Stevenson on Tuesday and Messiah on April 25th.
