Baseball Rolls Through Delaware Valley for 22nd Win

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Baseball earned its 22nd win of the spring Tuesday with a 13-3, mercy rule victory over the Delaware Valley Aggies at The Yard. With the game tied 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning, the Eagles (22-10) scored 10 unanswered runs, five in the bottom of the seventh, to secure the victory. It is the most wins in a single season for Eastern Baseball dating back to the 1995 season.

In all, 10 batters recorded 15 hits for the Eagles. JJ Matos had a strong day at the plate with two hits and three runs batted in. Thomas Kozlusky, Leyton Bamesberger, Trevor Harris, and Amauri Gonzalez combined for eight hits, seven runs scored, and three RBIs. Luke Meehan drove in a pair of runs, and Lane Heuer capped off the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning. David Garrido, Trent MacDougall, and Justin Rodriguez also combined for three hits and four runs scored.

Brady Maerz (3-1) earned his third win of the year in relief, giving up just one hit and one run in his lone inning of work. Connor Viola, Brayden Goss, Landen Lewis, and Peter Mellana combined for four innings of scoreless relief.

Eastern started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. With runners on second and third with one out, Matos laced a two-run single through the left side to plate Meehan and Gonglik and give the Eagles an early advantage. Delaware Valley (14-18) answered with two runs of its own in the top of the second on a Matteo Viola steal of home and an Eli Scott RBI groundout.

After a scoreless third, the Eagles tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth on a Bamesberger RBI single to left field. Again, the Aggies answered, tying the game 3-3 on a Nathan Fisher sacrifice fly to center field.

The Eagles took control of the game from there. MacDougall scored on one of Delaware Valley's four fielding errors to give the Eagles the lead for good in the fourth, and Garrido added insurance on a sacrifice fly to left field.

In the sixth, the Eagles scored three more runs on a Meehan sacrifice fly, another Aggies' fielding error, and an RBI single from Matos, his third of the afternoon. The Eagles put the game on ice with five hits in the seventh, scoring five runs to secure their 22nd win.

The Eagles are back home on Friday to begin a crucial MAC Commonwealth series with the league leading Messiah Falcons. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm at The Yard.
