St. DAVIDS, Pa. — Eastern University Men's Tennis won the doubles point and a pair of marathon singles matches in the middle of the order, but the visiting Rowan Colelge of Gloucester County Roadrunners won two three-setters at the top of the order and dominated at five and six to claim a closely-contested 4-3 win.
Jared Groff was the only double winner of the day for the Eagles.
Groff and
Jeffrey Day earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and the Eagles secured the first point of the match when
Stephen Dottoli and
Peter Folga won bya. 6-2 score at the top spot.
Tiger Winston and
Zachary Sprung played point-for-point at third doubles but dropped a 7-5 tiebreaker.
At third singles, Folga dropped his first set in a 9-7 tiebreaker, but he rallied to win 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 in a super-tiebreaker. Groff also dropped his opening set before cruising to a 6-1 win in the second set. He claimed a 14-12 win in the race-to-ten super-tiebreaker. Dottoli and Day also played into super-tiebreakers at the top spots, but the duo came up on the short end in both matches.
The Eagles (5-5) will host Alvernia on Wednesday.
