ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— One week shy of the program's one-year anniversary, Eastern University Flag Football ran past a pair of Atlantic East opponents to sweep opening day. With a dominating mix of passing, running, and defense, Eastern outscored Chestnut Hill and Centenary 114-6.
Kira Green threw for 496 yards and 12 touchdowns in the two wins.
Chestnut Hill, playing in its program's first game, came out with organization and a plan, but
Kyla Massenburg ran around the right edge for an 66-yard opening touchdown. The Eagles led 12-0 after one quarter and expanded their lead to 19-0 by halftime. Eastern's depth and defense proved to be too much and pulled away to a 52-0 win.
Dominique Geiger and
Sanej Tyler finished with four tackles and Massenberg had a pair of tackles for loss.
In game two, Green threw for 292 yards and six scores, but it was the defense that stood out.
Briel Hyppolite had 12 tackles and six sacks,
Molly Schellpeper had two interceptions, and Tyler had an interception for touchdown as the Eagles down Centenary 62-6 in a rematch last year's Atlantic East Semifinal.
Chestnut Hill won in overtime in the final game of the day.
The Eagles are at Holy Family next Saturday for a tri-match with Neumann and Holy Family.
